Piatti,Rosa Maria; Ikuno,Alice Akimi; Cunha,Elenice Sequetin; D'Ambros,Régia; Gregori,Fábio; Soares,Rodrigo Martins; Cortez,Adriana; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José.
The genomic DNA of thirty strains of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) isolated in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil from 1982 to 1996 were characterized by restriction endonuclease analysis with BamHI. Twenty seven strains were isolated from pigs, 1 from cattle, 1 from cat and 1 from dog. Using a systematization previously described, the 30 ADV strains could be classified as genomic types I (n = 2) and II (n = 28). Genomic type III was not observed. In this first study of genomic type characterization of brazilian ADV strains, we could demonstrate the occurence in Brazil of the genomic types I and II, with a large predominance of genomic type II.

HEINEMANN,Marcos Bryan; GARCIA,José Fernando; NUNES,Cáris Maroni; HIGA,Zenaide Maria Moraes; VASCONCELLOS,Silvio Arruda; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José.
Due to the high importance of the venereal transmission of bovine leptospirosis, this study aimed to test the ability of PCR to detect Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo DNA in experimentally contaminated bovine semen. Employing primers directed to the 16S rRNA gene, 10 bacteria/ml of semen could be detected by PCR. Results achieved in this work show that PCR can have a great potential to detect Leptospira spp. in insemination centers.

Cañón Franco,William Alberto; Bergamaschi,Denise Pimentel; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José; Nogueira,Yeda; Camargo,Luís Marcelo Aranha; Souza,Silvio Luís Pereira de; Gennari,Solange Maria.
Toxoplasmosis is a zoonosis that has been the subject of study in Brazil and worldwide. The dogs are sentinels for the infection and can carry Toxoplasma gondii in the environment. Seroepidemiological surveys of these animals are an important tool in the surveillance and control of the disease and inform decision-making in health programs. In this study the performance of the Modified Agglutination Test (MAT) in the serodiagnosis of canine toxoplasmosis is evaluated and compared to the indirect immunofluorescent-antibody test (IFAT). A sample of 157 dog sera from the county of Monte Negro, Rondônia, with 76.40% positive reactions for Toxoplasma gondii (IFAT =16) was analyzed using the MAT (=25), presenting sensitivity of 85.00% (Confidence Interval 95.00%:...

Evolution of equine influenza viruses (H3N8) during a Brazilian outbreak, 2015 BJM
Favaro,Patricia Filippsen; Fernandes,Wilson Roberto; Reischak,Dilmara; Brandão,Paulo Eduardo; Silva,Sheila Oliveira de Souza; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José.
Abstract Equine influenza is one of the major respiratory infectious diseases in horses. An equine influenza virus outbreak was identified in vaccinated and unvaccinated horses in a veterinary school hospital in São Paulo, SP, Brazil, in September 2015. The twelve equine influenza viruses isolated belonged to Florida Clade 1. The hemagglutinin and neuraminidase amino acid sequences were compared with the recent isolates from North and South America and the World Organisation for Animal Health recommended Florida Clade 1 vaccine strain. The hemagglutinin amino acid sequences had nine substitutions, compared with the vaccine strain. Two of them were in antigenic site A (A138S and G142R), one in antigenic site E (R62K) and another not in antigenic site...

Níveis de IgG séricos em bezerros experimentalmente infectados pelo Haemonchus placei Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
Nishi,Sandra Mayumi; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José; Gennari,Solange Maria.
